6.30am 8th August

Yesterday we visited the Grand Canyon which seemed more impressive than when we were here 11 years ago. At that time we’d already seen half a dozen other canyons and the Grand was just another one!!! Doesn’t appear to be many people visiting the National Parks. Not complaining! The school holidays end this weekend so that may have something to do with it and once again, the gas prices.
Yesterday we also visited two other points of interest. One was the best example of a meteor crater on earth just outside Winslow [yes that's where the guys standing on the corner]. The other was another National Park called the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert. Very impressive. Not just a few rocks but actual logs, stumps, etc everywhere. They have a no tolerence for taking or even picking up anything in this Park. The Painted Desert part of the Park wasn’t great because of the light. We had driven through an electrical storm and another was on its way!
We stayed in a small town called Holbrook last night in a cute little cabin, having panckes and coffee for breakfast.. $1.99, all you can eat!!!
